“I assumed Nolan would talk to you before anything became official.”
“So you knew it involved me.”
“Of course. There’s no way I’d have expected you not to know.”
I almost laughed.
“You’re the second person today who understood that before he did.”

“So you knew it involved me.”
“My husband left. I panicked. Nolan kept showing up.”
“He was late to our first ultrasound today.”
Her eyes lifted.
“He was?”
“Yes.”
“He told me you knew about the appointments. I said once that I felt weird taking so much of his time, and he said, ‘Ayla knows how I am.'”
“Nolan kept showing up.”
My jaw tightened.

“Did you ever ask him if I’d agreed to the guardian idea?”
Madison swallowed.
“No.”
My jaw tightened.
“Why?”
“Because I was scared he’d say no if I made it more complicated.”
„Za dużo od niego wymagałam” – powiedziała.
“Tak.”
