My legs gave out.

I dropped onto the marble floor.

I didn’t care who saw me.

“I’m begging you. Don’t leave me with nothing.”

Elena walked forward.

She stood over me.

But there was no satisfaction in her face.

No triumph.

Just certainty.

“You aren’t being left with nothing, Julian.”

I looked up.

Her voice softened.
